Newsletter 1 - Introduction
Hello! Thank you so much for siging up for the PSD
Newsletter! In this installment, a brief background to
PSD, a list of my newest completed pieces and our
"official" grand opening status.
BACKGROUND:
This whole process of creating PhilippineScript Designs
hasn't only been a labor of love but has come from my own
desire to research my heritage. After having immigrated
when I was 2 from Cebu, I was immersed in the American
culture, not getting to really know what it was to BE a
Filipina. I only started to feel the pride of being
Pilipino when I was a teenager living on Clark Air Base
during the revolution against the Marcos regime. I saw so
many people fighting for something NEW and there seemed to
be real awakening to the possibilities for something
better. It was amazing to have the realization that I had
this sense SPIRIT in my own blood.
Since having my daughter, I have an even more urgent sense
to "reach back" and know more. Marianne is mestiza (her
other half is German...she's our little Gerpino)but I want
her to feel connected to her heritage early on, to know the
richness of everything she is. It is with that mission
that I was moved to start PhilippineScript Designs. At 2
1/2 she already recognizes baybayin and it TICKLES me she
knows of its existence!
I'm so excited to share baybayin with you. I have not only
been a part of other Filipinos becoming aware of baybayin
but my education continues as I become exposed to more and
more Filipinos who want to share THEIR knowledge with ME!
I have learned so much through the generosity of my
kababayan, my countrymen, and it is with great thanks I
acknowledge their contributions.

GRAND OPENING STATUS:
We haven't had our official grand opening but I have
already started taking and processing orders. (The
turnaround time for shipping out custom-made pieces has
been about 24 hours.) The only thing keeping me from
pronouncing us officially open is doing some tweaking to
the check out process. Right now my customers are having
to enter their information twice, once on my site and once
at PayPal's. It's not keeping the orders from going
through but I do want to make it more stream-lined and user
friendly. Once this is done, I can declare
PhilippineScript Designs "officially" open!
As this wonderful experience continues, the response has
been SO kind and very enthusiastic! It's wonderful to know
Filipinos and non-Filipinos alike are appreciating this
beautiful and historical aspect of the Filipino culture. I
appreciate so much that people are enjoying the jewelry as
much as I love making it. If you know of anyone else who
might be interested in baybayin jewelry, please let them
